As a precautionary measure, Petzl is voluntarily recalling its ACCU 2 DUO Z1 rechargeable batteries with serial numbers below 19Hxxxxxxxxxxx, manufactured before September 2019.

 

Faulty DUO Z1 Battery

The model numbers of affected products are:

  • E80BHR (DUO Z1),
  • E80BHR UK (DUO Z1 UK),
  • E80DHR (Pack of 5 DUO Z1) and
  • E80001 (ACCU 2 DUO Z1).

Context

We have found a compliance discrepancy in the case material of ACCU 2 DUO Z1 rechargeable batteries. As a result, the ACCU 2 DUO Z1 rechargeable batteries no longer comply with ATEX Z1 performance requirements.

We ask you to immediately stop using any ACCU 2 DUO Z1 rechargeable batteries, and to return the products to us for a warranty replacement.

No accidents have been reported. However, as Petzl is committed to delivering products of very high quality, and as a precaution, we are doing a voluntary recall of the affected products.

If you have an ACCU 2 DUO Z1 that falls within the scope of this recall, Petzl asks you to contact After-Sales Service for a warranty replacement.

Procedure

If you have an ACCU 2 DUO Z1 that meets the above criteria, please contact your After-Sales Service to receive a compliant replacement battery.

After receiving your message, we will send you a prepaid voucher for returning your battery to us.

After receiving your battery, we will send you a compliant replacement battery as soon as possible.

  • Why the recall?

We have found a compliance discrepancy in the case material of ACCU 2 DUO Z1 rechargeable batteries. Laboratory tests have shown that this material discrepancy weakens the seal of ACCU 2 DUO Z1 batteries. As a result, the ACCU 2 DUO Z1 rechargeable batteries no longer comply with ATEX Z1 performance requirements.

No accidents have been reported. However, as a precaution, Petzl decided to voluntarily recall any potentially affected batteries.

  • I need to work; can I still use my lamp before returning it to Petzl?

No, you must immediately stop using the lamp and the rechargeable battery.

  • Are other ACCU 2 batteries affected?

No, only these ATEX batteries are non-compliant.

No, only the new DUO Z1 lamp and its ACCU 2 DUO Z1 battery are affected by this recall.

  • What replacement options are offered?


- Replacement with a compliant battery (available January 2020), and a PIXA Z1 headlamp sent to you in the meantime.

- Replacement of your DUO Z1 lamp by other Petzl products of your choice, for an amount equal to the purchase price of your lamp + 20%.

- A refund on your lamp, on presentation of a copy of the purchase invoice.

  • What is the return procedure?

Depending on your choice, the After-Sales Service in your country will do a replacement, exchange or reimbursement for your DUO Z1 lamp or ACCU 2 rechargeable battery. For this, you must contact the After-Sales Service in your country.

  • What are the shipping arrangements for returning products?

Petzl will send you packaging approved for shipping Li-Ion batteries.

  • Who will pay the shipping cost for the return of the product?

All shipping costs for lamps or batteries are of course paid by Petzl. Contact the After-Sales Service of the distributor in your country to obtain a prepaid return voucher.
